5 Content Creators Breaking the Mold of Gender Stereotype

Gender refers to the social and cultural characteristics that are associated with being male, female, or another gender identity. It encompasses a wide range of attributes, including behaviors, roles, expectations, attitudes, and values that are considered appropriate for individuals based on their gender. Gender is not the same as sex, which refers to biological characteristics such as reproductive organs, hormones, and c. As a result of this conformity, males and females are often confined to specific gender roles which are assigned to them growing up. Those who want to break that mold are often criticized and sadly ostracized into a recluse. However, with the advent of social media, men and women have found a liberating way to express themselves through their work, and self-expression. They have not only found a platform, but also anhromosomes enthralled audience who have accepted them with open arms.  In this article today, we are going to talk about 5 content creators who have not only molded out of gender stereotyping but are making big strides in their careers and life. 

 #1 Ankush Bahuguna 

 With over 1 million followers on Instagram, Ankush is a talented content creator and make-up enthusiast who has managed to entertain his followers with comedy sketches, videos, and make-up tutorials. As the younger member of his family, he grew up with a lot of insecurities, but discovered his passion for writing at a young age and won the National Debut Youth Fiction award. This was followed by creating comedy videos for YouTube, which got him a lot of recognition in the online space.  

But his journey as a content creator was not limited to creating comedy sketches. When the pandemic hit the world, Ankush shared content related to makeup hacks, tips, and tricks. This really skyrocketed his popularity on Instagram and his work was appreciated at the same time criticized. As a man, posting make-up tutorials on social media is a break away from the norm. Makeup and beauty are treated as a domain that interests only women, however, there are a lot of men who use makeup as a tool to express themselves and Ankush Bahugana is one of them.  

#2 Dr. Neharika Yadav 

 Superbike racer and dentist, Dr. NeharikaYadav is a content creator who doesn't shy away from showing her love for the road and bikes. Biking is often associated with masculine pride and women expressing their love for it was unheard of until a few years ago. But things have changed drastically in the last decade. As per a report, women in India have taken the high-end bike market by storm. International brands like Harley Davidson and Ducati are now targeting women bikers in India.  

This is because, in the past years, adventure biking and traveling amongst Indian women have increased drastically. There is also a rise in women-only biker communities across the country. Bikers like Dr. Neharika Yadav are inspiring many young Indian women to do things out of the traditional mold. She regularly posts glamorous pictures of herself with her favorite Ducati on her Instagram page. Besides that, she was on the jury for the Zee Auto Award, 2022. She is also a Ted Talk speaker and was the only woman competitor at the JK Tyre Superbike Championship for 3 consecutive years ( 2015, 2016, 2017) in the 1000 cc category.  

Having ridden bikes in famous international circuits such as Sipang International Circuit, Malaysia and MugelloCircuit, Italy, Neharika is a poster girl for young women in India who wants to break the gender stereotype and wishes to associate with a Sport that was predominantly male-driven. 

#3 Seema Anand  

 In recent times, we have seen some of the most amazing content creation from the young and bold population of this country. But it should be noted that the isn’t far behind either. Take the example of Seema Anand, a celebrated author, sex educator, and now a content creator in her 60s who is breaking the gender stereotype by talking about another taboo subject “ the goodness of sex” amongst the older generation.  

Her work is covered by vogue in this amazing article,  where she talks about the health aspect of intimacy and sex in older people. She has 709K followers on Instagram and her content is very informative and an eye-opener.  

When a person gets older, he or she is tied down to traditional roles. They are mostly lonely and lead a mundane retired life. As an intimacy expert and sex educator, her content on Instagram will be useful for a person of any gender or age. Her work has broken several myths around sex and most importantly she has broken the mold of the role and responsibility of older people in our society. 

#4 Sakshi Sindwani

Having graced the cover of Vogue India 30under 30 in Feb of 2023, Sakshi is a self-confessed “stereotype smasher”. After all, slightly bigger size women had no role to play in the fashion industry. But thanks to social media avenues she is an avid body-positive fashion influencer who is breaking the mold of the fashion industry. Through her Youtube Vlog, Sakshi became one of the first women who started talking about the sizing problem in the fashion industry.  

Curvy women had very limited options when it came to fashion. It is only now, thanks to fashion influencers like Sakshi that have pushed brands to create clothes for women with larger or bigger bodies.  The content of her YouTube channel and Instagram page resonates with every person who suffers from different forms of insecurities. She doesn't shy away from showing off her curvaceous body and has got several awards and praise from her followers who struggle with body image issues on a daily basis. 

#5 Lahar Joshi

 Lahar Joshi is a twin father and a stay at home from Mumbai who is challenging one of the biggest gender roles written by our society - “the role of the breadwinner for the family”. In the majority of families, it is the father who dons the role of breadwinner and in some families, the father and mother share that responsibility. But it is a very rare phenomenon, where a conscious decision is made about the father to stay back home in order to take care of the kids, as the mom steps out to earn a living.  

This arrangement was embarrassed by the Joshi family back in 2015 when they found that they were expecting twins. We live in a world that reminds us every day about strict gender roles. However, men like Lahar have broken that role.
